"Nineteen cottages under the Aravallis at the edge of Sariska Tiger Reserve"
Sariska is Rajasthan's second-chance tiger country — the reserve is, as the lodge puts it, a newfound home to the Royal Bengal tiger — and Sariska Safari Lodge is its most orderly base: nineteen cottages in five clusters opening onto lush lawns, with the Aravalli range on the skyline. The lodge describes itself as an eco-friendly boutique property, simply designed with locally sourced materials and a rustic-colonial charm, and it is owned and managed by The Consortium Hotels, a Delhi group running standalone properties since 2003.
Life centres on a 2,500-square-foot courtyard framed by rose gardens and red stone, where Rajasthani folk nights and silent stargazing take turns. There is a lounge with a well-stocked library and board games, a sun deck with a live tandoor station by evening, and a pool wrapped in greenery. The dining hall seats fifty-four and works farm-to-table, its menu built on organic produce grown in-house or bought from nearby villages.
Order and roses inside the gate; dry-thorn wilderness beyond it.
The region deals in legend as much as wildlife: the lodge's own telling runs from the Matsya kingdom of the Mahabharata to Pandu Pol, where Bhima is said to have smashed a passage through the rock. From the first-floor Maharani Suite, the view runs to Thanagazi Fort.
Sixteen keys in double and twin layouts. Each cottage is 600 sq ft with an open veranda and a 150 sq ft ensuite washroom; king-size beds, mini-bar, tea-coffee maker, cable television and garden access.
Two 750 sq ft family cottages with open sit-outs and two ensuite washrooms, designed for a small family. King-size bed plus a pull-out sofa sleeper, mini-bar, tea-coffee maker and cable television.
The lodge's single first-floor suite: living area, study, master bedroom and two ensuite washrooms, with an open sit-out and a view of Thanagazi Fort. Mini-bar, tea-coffee maker and cable television.
